OUR EXPERTISE

Most pharmaceutical and medtech products have the potential to be global products. Consequently, as well as the international trade of the products themselves, there is also the possibility of trade in the underlying intellectual property, data and regulatory filings. Frequently these deals occur at the development stage of products. Manufacturing issues are often important.

Our founder was the first lawyer in Europe in an external law firm to advise biotech companies, and over the subsequent 45 years has advised on thousands of commercial arrangements in the sector. Our core expertise covers the structuring, drafting and negotiation of all forms of strategic partnering, licensing deals, joint ventures, collaboration arrangements and distribution structures. It also covers the initial licensing and technology transfer of these rights from a university setting to a start-up, along with research and development agreements including with CRO's. We regularly advise upon manufacturing & supply chain agreements such as with a CDMO.

Our business model is to provide the part-time services of an internal counsel, integrated with the internal team, whether on a general basis, or for a particular transaction. We add most value if we are involved at an early stage.

For over 15 years now we have been heavily involved assisting our clients to maximise the potential of their products by licensing them for exploitation in high growth markets such as China and LATAM, and other regional markets as they are developing. We assist this process by training companies in those countries of the key features of the deals which they will experience, such as our licensing masterclass which we have given to teams at several companies in China and Brasil.
